Who am I and what do I do?
My name is Warren and I have been around boats, rivers and canals since I was a boy but only started living full time on boats off grid since 2005.
I’ve learnt many things along the way simply because marinas like to charge lots of money for the work they do and I couldn’t afford or didn’t want to pay those prices.
I’m dyslexic so wasn’t great at English at school but I’ve always been good at making, mending and learning from experience.
I seem to be quite a visual person; I can see an outcome in my mind’s eye then design it in my head and make it real. I seem to be good at solving or getting round or over, problems which is ideal for working on a boat.
I think what I’m trying to say is dyslexia may have been an issue at school but it can be a massive advantage when you leave.
Skill set.
Making things from wood and bits of metal that have had a previous life as something else; reclaiming and up cycling whenever possible.
Painting, blacking, staining, waxing, scumbling etc.
Space saving cupboards, cabinets, kitchens, bedrooms, showers, compositing toilets. Visually making small spaces look bigger so ideal for narrow/wide boats and small flats, houses, vans, buses.
I live off grid and I have some knowledge of solar, wind and generators. I can take on small jobs, find you a project boat or helping to do a project with, or for, a customer; it doesn’t have to be a boat.
Options for the customer to save money.
You can work alongside me, picking up skills at the same time saving you money, giving you a little more knowledge and confidence for next/job time.
You could prepare and get the job ready saving you money.
You can leave me to it and save money not paying generally twice the price at marinas.
I’m not having a go at marinas, I know they have lots of overheads and wages to pay out but most people including liveaboards and some boaters simply can’t afford or don’t want to pay those prices.
There are always things to do so let me give you some ideas or a price and you can book them in and cross them off the list.
My rate per hour is from £20 to £35 depending on skill set or if I need a Labourer.
.
I can work on all budgets. You are only paying for my labour and materials so why not put a few small jobs together and you can get them done in a day or so.
Please have a look at the photos on the website at some of the work I’ve done.
